The original evidence-based CBT manual for cocaine addiction, written by Kathleen Carroll at Yale and published by NIDA as the first volume in its Therapy Manuals for Drug Addiction series. It walks through a short-term outpatient treatment session by session: functional analysis of drug use, coping with craving, refusal skills, seemingly irrelevant decisions, problem solving, and relapse prevention.
Programs still train counselors on it because the protocol has decades of trial evidence behind it, and the appendix covers therapist selection, training, and supervision.
Run it with these materials
Trigger and craving worksheets carry the manual's functional analysis homework, and the urge surfing timer runs its coping-with-craving practice.
